Why a site on the Peugeot 404?I was initially looking for a popular, four-seater convertible from the 1960's with a great design for a reasonable price. Not a lot of choice ! Not only does the 404 cabriolet seat 4 (2 adults and 2 small children) but this car can still be found in France in significant numbers and parts are still 'reasonably' available. Briefly, as an intro, the Peugeot 404 cabriolet was built in France from 1960 to 1968. The production run during this period was 10389 cabriolets (compared to over 2.5 million sedans) of which 7375 have an injection motor. The 404 cabriolet as well as the coupé and the sedan were designed by Pinin Farina. Several cars, like the Fiat 1500, Lancia Appia, Ferrari 250 GT have a similar design. After acquiring a 1967 Peugeot 404 convertible a several years ago, I started gathering some shop and maintenance documents and one thing led to another... This site has evolved to covers some aspects of the Peugeot 404 cabriolet (convertible or drop-head), coupé, berline (sedan or saloon) and brake (station-wagon or estate) and now includes miniatures, links to other Peugeot 404 fanatics, etc. Wander about, I hope you enjoy it.
Some of the different sections that this site covers include the different 404 models, documentation in different languages, my own 404 and its restoration project, some technical notes, 404 from around the world, etc... In the document section you'll find images of magazines, promotional pamphlets, and technical documents on the 404 cabriolet, coupe and other models (French, English, German and Dutch). I've also received pictures and stories of 404's from other people,
and added them to a 404's from around world section. This is an
ongoing effort so if you have a Peugeot 404, send me a picture by
email to : In 2009, I restarted the restoration project after a long pause and relaunched this site.
