Peugeot 404 - Restoration Project - June 28th-29th, 2003

Went to Monthlery with the girls to see the races and in the evening started to remove the water pump. The first pictures are from the race.

Previous page

Water intake radiator hose and fan belt were previously removed as well as the lower water hose and heater line. As to the magnetic fan switch wire (N° 57)described in the doc ? I'm not sure this was correctly in place.
One of the square head screws is missing. Rotors are unmounted by removing the three nuts.
The pump is removed by removing the five fixation screws and pulling or tapping the pump out.
Quick cleaning still shows rusted fan blades.
I noticed that I still had not replaced a pedestal I had stolen last year, so before I get to the rear axle. I might as well start with the gas tank. First off is the black plastic cover.
Wire to the gas gauge is disconnected.
Once the plastic cover is off the rubber elbow connecting the tank to the fill orifice and the two retention rings are visible.
The orifice has been mounted using wood screws ! Ugly work...
The tank itself is mounted with quite a mix of screws (2 10mm, a 12mm, one hex head) Proof of a previous (mediocre) restore work...
Supports and the various screws are a bit rusty.
Gas goes in here (notice the wood screws)...
...and out here.
